It seems such a long time ago now that I first decided to start up my own doona cover business. Sometimes I think I'm crazy but when you look back at all the amazing experiences you've been through and the goals you've accomplished it makes it all worthwhile.

 

One of the biggest challenges starting out was MONEY. However there is a very special program run by The NAB which helps small businesses like mine get the finance they need to get off the ground.

 

As a participant of their "Microenterpise Loan Program" I was invited to be an "ambassador" and talk about my experience of being a young entrepreneur.

I’ve always wanted to take Duckprint’s doona cover designs to the market so people can see our product range in person. After all, when it comes to bedding people love to be able to feel & touch. Last weekend I showcased Duckprint’s doona cover designs at Abbotsford’s Skirts & Shirts Market. It was a beautiful day & it’s attracted an impressive crowd. I certainly wasn’t disappointed.

 

However, choosing which market to attend is not as simple a task as one might expect. There's so many fantastic markets in and around Melbourne. I thought I might share a bit of my journey fill you in on some of my favourite finds.

Duckprint's doona covers were featured on television, which I'm pretty is super exciting news. I've posted the video here so you can check it out.

 

For those of you who haven't heard of it, Planet Unearth is a fantastic new show aired on Aurora on Thursday nights. The series helps unearth fresh new talent, much liked the Unearthed music show on triple j.

 

However the difference is that this great little segment introduces us to ALL types of talent. Anyone that does something creative or inspiring.  It's a fantastic little project and it's a great way to help talented individuals get themselves noticed.

I've always had a love interior design and it's a big part of the reason I decided to start by own bedding and doona cover business.  I've sifted through the interior design blogs and sought out my top 10 bedroom design concepts.

 

I personally like bedroom designs which feature lots of colour, with one key feature piece.  I love the use of pattern and texture and I think the bedding you choose can really make the design of a room.  I hope these images inspire you to give your own bedroom that special something.

We had an awesome official launch party on the 22^nd of October.  It was great to celebrate the opening of Duckprint’s bed linen business after so many months of hard work.

 

There was a great turnout, with friends, family, and even a few of our online friends from twitter (“twends” is apparently the correct word) all joining us to make merry and check out our awesome designs.

 

I was really happy with the setup, with our doona covers hanging from the ceiling like a big fabric canopy, all lit-up with spotlights to show off their vibrant colours.
